Ball-bearing Gravity Sorter

  • I built a small “Georgia Tech”-themed gravity sorter, “The Buzzin’ Bearing Bank”, for various sizes of ball bearings as one of my first introductions to SolidWorks during ME 1670.

  • I used this project to practice my engineering sketching/tolerancing and iteratively go through the engineering design process using GD&T.

  • Fabricated the gravity sorter using an SLA Resin 3D printer to produce all the parts for final assembly.

  • I had to make sure tolerances were reasonable and that the design was properly manufacturable since incorrect tolerances would lead to a failure in sorting.

Skills & Techniques:

  • Low-tolerance project modeling with SolidWorks

  • Rapid prototyping and design for manufacturing

  • SLA 3D Printing/additive manufacturing
